CMS Law Scholarships - opportunity for Year 12 students

Please see below information and links from CMS Law about a scholarship scheme for Year 12 students.

We wanted to let you know about a university scholarships scheme for Year 12 students who are interested in a career in Law.

We know that things are difficult for many Year 12 students at the moment and that the restrictions on schools and colleges are having a negative impact on closing the gaps for less advantaged students.  We believe that right now it is more important than ever for firms like CMS to support these students to have the best chance to fulfil their aspirations.

What is the CMS Law Scholarships Scheme?

At CMS, we believe that a career in law should be open to everyone with the right talents. To realise the full potential of our offering, we are committed to attracting and developing a new generation of the brightest and most creative legal minds from across the UK. Four Scholarships winners receive £2500 for each year of their degree course.  All Scholarships finalists receive mentoring support with their university applications, support from one of our graduate trainees and paid work experience at CMS.  We also pay travel and accommodation expenses for our assessment day and work experience so that economic barriers do not prevent students from attending.  If we cannot host an assessment day at our offices this year, we will hold a virtual assessment instead.

Background to CMS

CMS is the 6th largest law firm in the world and has recently been named no 26 in 100 Best Employers for Graduates at the 2020 National Undergraduate Employability Awards. As well as supporting students in their university applications, the Law Scholarships scheme offers students a chance to develop a relationship with us and start their journey into the legal profession.

Who can apply?

Scholarships are aimed at academically high-achieving students (predicted ABB at A-Level) who will be the first generation in their family to go to university. There are also certain financial criteria that students need to meet and full details of these can be found in the attached Scholarships brochure.

What are the next steps?

To be considered for a Scholarship, students will need to enter our essay-writing competition which opens on 15 June 2020 and closes on 22 July 2020.  Students will need to write 750 to 1000 words in answer to one of these two questions:

1.     Will the current lockdown create more advantages than disadvantages?

2.     "Until climate action becomes profitable, positive climate change will not happen."  Do you agree?

You can find full details of the scheme and how to apply in the attached brochure and on our website: https://cms.law/en/GBR/About-Us/Corporate-Responsibility/CMS-Law-Scholarships   .

How can I get the message out to Year 12 students?

We have attached: a short PowerPoint slide show, a flyer and a brochure with more information on the scheme.

If you have any questions, please do email us at: law.scholarship@cms-cmno.com.
