Young people get ‘fired up’ about the world of work!

Bromley EBP work with representatives from local and national employers to help deliver a series of employability events so that young people (16-24) can find out more about what it’s like to work in their sector and more details on the types of job/apprenticeship opportunities available to them.

On Friday 7th February over 30 young people referred by a number of departments and schools within the London Borough of Bromley came along to the Central Library to spend time chatting with people from our partner organisations.  There were also short presentations to the group by colleagues from DWP, London South East Colleges and the Education Development Trust who highlighted the benefits of apprenticeships.

BEBP coordinates the event but the key employer partners who volunteer to support are the ones who make the sessions such a success!  Thanks to the following employers for their help – Bell Group, Clarion Housing Group, DWP, Go Landscape, Inspire Hair & Beauty, Lewisham NHS, LSEC, Santander and Scope. Our community volunteers also support the young people by offering 1:1 interviews and direct help with updating their CVs or just talking about work!

We were delighted that Cllr Peter Fortune, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Families was able to come along and open the event.  He said ‘It was great to see so many local and national employers here today offering this really incredible opportunity for young people. It was encouraging to see all the young people engaging with the employers and there was definitely a positive and buzzing atmosphere in the room.  It was fantastic for us all to hear from the Education Development Trust about the range and breadth of apprenticeship opportunities available’.

If you are an employer and would like to find out more about how you can help support young people, please contact the EBP team at ebp.admin@bromley.gov.uk
