London Borough of Bromley welcomes local secondary school students on work experience

Bromley Education Business Partnership now coordinates the Council’s work experience scheme. The team have been busy coordinating placements for students from Years 10, 11 and 12 from a wide variety of local secondary schools, having received 70 applications, a historically high number.

The team have promoted the value of work experience across the Council and are delighted that a range of departments have offered a placement this year. Students have worked in various divisions across the Council including Planning, Transport, Libraries, Audit, Bromley Children Project, Admissions and the EBP team itself. Overall, 37 young people have completed a work experience placement with the Council this year and the feedback from both managers and students has been positive.

BEBP have been seeking the views of young people whilst on their placements to monitor progress and to assess the suitability of placements for the future. Phoebe worked with the Council’s Audit division for a week in June and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Although she does not intend to go into the field, she was enthusiastic about the work and engaged really well with the team. Throughout the week, she undertook a range of administration tasks including data entry and cross-referencing data. She also had the opportunity to benefit from Bromley’s latest training on fraud and risk management.

Halil (pictured), a local sixth-form student, undertook work experience with the Bromley EBP team in mid-July. He helped with a range of administrative and research tasks and proved to be a vital support at this particularly busy time for the team. Halil said ‘I have really enjoyed my time with Bromley EBP and have learnt a lot of new skills. This experience has given me a real insight into office life.’

Bromley EBP would like to thank all departments that have offered work experience and are looking forward to running another successful scheme next year.
