Students take the Next Step on their career paths

On Friday 12th February, 55 sixth form students from Bishop Justus, Charles Darwin and Langley Park School for Boys attended the Next Steps conference at Bromley Central Library. The aim of the event, which is part of the Bromley Youth Employment Scheme, was to provide young people with an insight into employers’ expectations in the workplace. The event also focused on giving young people a much broader spectrum of the opportunities available to them once they have completed their A-Levels.

A range of local and national employers were there to support the young people with tailored careers guidance and information about working in their job sectors. The event included an insightful presentation from CITB, on the opportunities available in construction not only on site but also within the office environment.
Capital Asset Services and Metro Bank focused on the opportunities they can offer along with the perks that come with working for their established companies. Bromley College presented information on the benefits of apprenticeships and the day also included ‘speed networking’ sessions, tailored CV advice and mock interview opportunities.

We received a very positive response from students, teachers and employers who all felt the event was valuable.
Linda Gamble- Beresford, one of our dedicated business ambassadors said “I enjoyed encouraging young people to think about their future and to open their eyes to possibilities about which they were previously unaware”  Jill Green, a teacher from Charles Darwin said “the students were very enthusiastic after the event where students informed me of how useful the day was”.

Bromley EBP would like to thank Skanska, Halkin Hotel, Capita Asset Services, Metro Bank, Bromley College, The ITP, CITB, Chicane School of Motoring, Thackray Williams and all the other volunteers who supported the event.
We would also like to thank FLR Spectron who kindly sponsored lunch and refreshments.
