Local and National Employers help young people with their ‘Next Steps’
Employers from a range of local and national organisations will be giving up their time on Wednesday 27th November to work with over 60 Year 12 and 13 students to help them be better prepared for the workplace in the future. Bullers Wood and Darrick Wood schools will be encouraging a group of sixth form students from their school who do NOT intend to progress to University when they finish their studies to attend this event. Support with employability skills for Year 11 students
Employers from a range of local organisations will give up their time next Tuesday to ‘go back to school’ at Langley Boys in Beckenham. They will be working with a group of students from Year 11 providing advice, guidance and support on options for Post 16 including FE College and apprenticeship opportunities. BEBP are delighted that representatives from Bell Group, DWP, FM Conway, LSEC, Santander and Thackray Williams, as well as our community volunteers, will be offering their knowledge and experience to help the young people. OECD Report on future talent
By the age of seven, children are already facing limits on their future aspirations in work, according to a report from the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) international economics think tank. Andreas Schleicher, the OECD's director of education and skills, says "talent is being wasted" because of ingrained stereotyping about social background, gender and race. The report highlights that children have begun making assumptions about what type of people will enter different types of work while they are still in primary school and there are only "minimal changes" in attitudes towards career options between the ages of seven and 17. Is your organisation looking for talented young people?......
A key element of our work at Bromley EBP is organising employability events for young people from Bromley secondary schools. These events are designed to help them understand more about the world of work and the breadth of opportunities available to them when they leave school. We have our annual series of events organised for this academic year, most of which are specifically aimed at sixth form students (Year 12 & 13) NOT intending to go onto University. We provide the link between employers/community volunteers and the schools and undertake all the liaison, preparation and delivery of the event. All we ask is for employer representatives to turn up and engage with the young people during the event. This is a great opportunity for local and national organisations to meet with talented students from Bromley who will be job seeking next summer.
