Success stories in light of the pandemic

Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, the job market has changed dramatically.  Bromley EBP has been working with several young people on the YES project and unfortunately during the usual monitoring process we discovered that some previously successful apprentices had been furloughed and, in some cases, made redundant.  It’s not all doom and gloom though – since June nine young people have managed to secure employment and three have decided to return to college to gain additional qualifications.

The motivation and determination of these young people is astonishing and inspiring.  Despite all the setbacks and the challenging circumstances, including online assessments and interviews, they have not given up.

The employment secured includes a three-year degree apprenticeship in Field Engineering with Arqiva in Wrotham and a Level 3 Apprenticeship with TP Carpentry.  Four young people have started in hospitality and two more in construction with accredited local training.  At the beginning of the month, Michael was successful in his application to the LBB Graduate Scheme and is now working in Housing and Regeneration as a Housing Compliance and Strategy Graduate.

In October, two more young people will be starting apprenticeships: a Level 3 Business Admin Assistant at Bakkavor and a Level 3 Customer Services Assistant at the British Library in London.  We are also awaiting news of two more successful appointments in Hairdressing and another in Business Admin.

We will continue to help young people (16-24) who reside in the Borough or have been schooled in Bromley and are looking for employment.
