Ravens Wood welcomes Dragons

It was a busy day for the Dragons at Ravens Wood School on Thursday 20th May with budding entrepreneurs eager to give their presentations.

Dragon’s Pen is based on the Dragon's Den television series and aims to encourage young people to be more creative and enterprising. It involves volunteers from business and the local community acting as mentors to young people in a classroom environment. Pupils are given information on the importance of planning, especially with regard to a business plan for a new venture. Working in teams of six and using a selection of basic resources they design a product or service and make a prototype.

Teams then use their production, advertising, planning and presentation skills to prepare a 3 minute pitch for the business venture to their ‘Dragon’ who ‘invests’ in the winning idea.

Dragon Philip Cornwell commented "you can see two or three potential Managing Directors in each group of students, they really do get a lot out of these events - that's why I do it."

Lesley holland, Operations Manager, Bromley EBP said “the more involvement young people can have with business and industry professionals the better. It was great to have Dragons from the Apollo Group, Thomas Dunton Solicitors and AST Motor Services as well as our dedicated community volunteers. It’s great to see entrepreneurs willing to support this initiative and the young people appreciate the chance to bounce ideas off those who really work at the sharp end and know how to run a successful business.”
