Young people from the Glebe School, Kelsey Park Sports College and Kingswood Centre found out what it’s like to work in this sector at this taster session held on 25th March. They explored different types of work including food production, land management, animal health and welfare as well as environmental conservation.
BEECHE (Bromley Environmental Education Centre at High Elms), a community facility delivering environmental education to schools, hosted the event. They arranged for students to accompany a Park Ranger to find out what is involved in a typical days work for him. Joe Cottingham from Watts Farm described how we use the environment for commercial purposes and demonstrated the fruit and vegetables they produce through a lively quiz. The session finished with students finding out about caring for animals with Chris Fancourt from Reptile Razzmatazz.
Teacher comments from the day included “It’s been a brilliant day” and “meeting individuals from the world of work brings an industry alive in a way that no lesson can”.
