Flexible Learning - Extended Work Experience Placements

This programme is designed for students in Y10 and above who may benefit from an alternative style and location of learning as part of an alternative education package.  The aim is to re-engage students who are losing or who have lost interest in school and are at risk of being NEET.  Students are offered the opportunity to spend 1 or 2 days a week with an employer over a longer period of time and up to an academic year.  The combination of a reduced timetable of core subjects and work experience may better suit students who do not respond well to a full-time academic programme.  Placements are bespoke and matched to the individual student according to their interests.

We offer a complete service including regular monitoring visits, coordinate all arrangements and act as point of contact for the duration of the placement. Students will be encouraged to record their progress in a work experience diary enabling them to build up evidence which can be used when applying for college, traineeships or apprenticeships.

We offer:

  • an individual student interview
  • individual placing to take account of student preferences
  • a pre-placement assessment
  • an employer briefing
  • health & safety briefing for student
  • completion of all paperwork including parental consent
  • daily attendance monitoring
  • half termly monitoring visits to employer to check student’s progress/welfare
  • regular progress updates
  • dealing with issues of concern
