  • Covid-19 Update on work experience placements at Bromley Council

Unfortunately, the London Borough of Bromley has had to take the difficult decision to cancel this year’s programme of work experience for young people.  The first placements were due to take place from mid-June through to early July. A number of factors have contributed to this decision including: the fact that most of the schools involved have withdrawn their students from the confirmed placements due to uncertainty around schools re-opening and the safety of young people.   the fact that the Council is currently planning a recovery to start to get over 1,...

18 talented young people from Bromley schools came together last night at Coopers School along with teachers, parents, friends and supporters for the regional final of the ‘Speak Out’ challenge.  Each Bromley secondary school sent a Year 11 representative to the event which was hosted by Olivia from Coopers School who won this regional final last year.  The speakers had all been involved in public speaking sessions at their school delivered by professionals from the Speak Out team which is sponsored by Jack Petchey. • Next Steps for students from Beckenham

Our business partners, including representatives from Bell Group, Direct Line, DWP, OSTC and Santander, will be meeting students from Langley Park School for Boys and Langley Park School for Girls this Friday at the Next Steps event.  The aim of the session is to provide sixth form students from both schools who do NOT intend to progress to university support with job seeking and career advice. The programme on the day will involve key note speakers, speed networking and the offer of a 1:1 mock interview.  Employers will engage with the young people and let them know more about what it’s like to work in their organisation and how to access any potential opportunities.  The Education Development Trust will talk about the breadth of apprenticeship employment available as well as how and when to start applying. We are looking forward to the event this Friday...

  • Young people get ‘fired up’ about the world of work!

Bromley EBP work with representatives from local and national employers to help deliver a series of employability events so that young people (16-24) can find out more about what it’s like to work in their sector and more details on the types of job/apprenticeship opportunities available to them.  On Friday 7th February over 30 young people referred by a number of departments and schools within the London Borough of Bromley came along to the Central Library to spend time chatting with people from our partner organisations.  There were also short presentations to the group by colleagues from DWP, London South East Colleges and the Education Development Trust who highlighted the benefits of apprenticeships. BEBP coordinates the event but the key employer partners who volunteer to support are the ones who make the sessions such a success!  Thanks to the following employers for their help – Bell Group, Clarion Housing Group, DWP, Go Landscape, Inspire Hair & Beauty, Lewisham NHS, LSEC, Santander a...

  • Young people find out more about careers from local and national employers

The next in BEBP's series of Next Steps employability events took place on Wednesday 29th January at the Central Library in Bromley.  Sixth form students from Charles Darwin, Hayes School and Harris Orpington connected with representatives from local and national employer organisations to find out more about what it’s like to work in their sector and more details on the types of job/apprenticeship opportunities available to them.  The students have told their schools that, at the moment, they do not intend to progress onto Higher Education but will be looking for work once they finish school. BEBP coordinated the event but the key employer partners who volunteered to support are the ones who made the event such a success.  Thanks to the following employers for their help at the event – Bell Group, Clarion Housing Group, DWP, Education Development Trust, London Borough of Bromley, Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust, Metro Bank, Santander and Waterman Group.  Our community volunteers also support the young people by offering 1:1 interviews and direct help with updating their CVs or just talking about work! If your organisation w...
