Apprenticeships really make a difference to employers
Employers with an established apprenticeship programme reported a staggering 76% increase in productivity. What’s more the government will pay 90% of the training costs, so taking on apprentices is a real win-win situation. Employers can also receive a grant of £1,000 if they recruit a 16-18 year old apprentice and if they employ fewer than 50 staff the training costs of taking on a 16-18 year old apprentice are also covered. Experiencing the world of work
Bromley EBP has supported Bromley Trust Academy by sourcing work experience placements for a group of their year 10 students. The students spent one week at local employers from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd March. Max Mulcahy, the Work Experience Placement Coordinator, organised placements in a wide range of sectors including: Headmasters (Salon), Bromley Vehicle Test Centre, Chislehurst Road Garage, Penge Community Pre School and Sainsbury’s. The students were tasked with organising interviews with the employers prior to the placements and were monitored on a daily basis. Employers help young people find out about the world of work
The London Borough of Bromley has a commitment within its ‘Building a Better Bromley’ statement to help support the Borough’s residents, especially those deemed vulnerable, by supporting them into work. Local and national employers who volunteer their time to work with Bromley EBP make a huge contribution to this agenda. On Tuesday 13th March a number of employers including BSPS Ltd, Clarion Group, FM Conway, Nat West and DWP worked with a group of over 30 students from Year 11 at Langley Park School for Boys. The boys had been identified by the school as needing a bit more help and direction to make sensible choices for their Post 16 employment or training. Help from employers when you need it…
Bromley EBP runs a series of employability events for young people in local sixth forms who do not intend to go onto HE when they finish their studies. On 9th February, over 20 employers from a range of organisations met with young people from Darrick Wood and Charles Darwin Schools to help offer their support and advice about the type of job opportunities available and how best to access them. One of the young people from Darrick Wood School (Tia) wrote this about the event: ‘At the Next Steps Conference I was informed of different ways to find out what I wanted to do in my life. There were various sectors from a number of different industries, providing advice.
