First year of YES is a great success!

The Bromley Youth Employment Scheme (BYES) has reached the end of its first year and it is has proved to be a great success – with 48 young people placed into contracted employment so far.

The Scheme, co-ordinated by Bromley EBP, is designed to help young Bromley residents with their employability skills, and includes tailored CV, job search and interview skills workshops. It also includes an employment opportunity matching service and offers continued support for the first six months of their employment to both young people and employers.

The Bromley YES Next Steps Conferences, another aspect of the scheme, have also been very successful. These events, designed for Sixth Form students not intending to go onto Higher Education, aim to inform young people about the various career options available to them when leaving school. Over 230 students from local schools attended during the past year, with a range of businesses from various job sectors including Metro Bank, RBS, Capita Asset Services, CITB, Adecco and many more. Feedback from students, teachers and employers has been very positive.

Dates for the 2015/2016 conferences have been arranged and are already fully booked for schools. The details are as follows:

  • Friday 20th November 2015 – Coopers School and Kemnal Technology College
  • Friday 12th February 2016 – Langley Park School for Boys and Bishop Justus CE School
  • Friday 4th March 2016 – Charles Darwin School, Ravens Wood School and Chislehurst School for Girls
  • Friday 18th March 2016 – The Priory School and Bullers Wood School
  • Friday 15th April 2016 – The Ravensbourne School

Thank you to everyone that has made the Bromley Youth Employment Scheme a great success in its first year and we look forward to working closely with local and national employers over the coming year to get more young people into work!
